If you're looking for a new knitting project, why not try making a cute and cozy baby vest? A thin and thick vines pattern baby vest is a great choice, as it combines a beautiful, textured stitch pattern with a comfortable, easy-to-wear design. This vest is perfect for keeping your little one warm and snug during those chilly autumn and winter months.

What You'll Need

To make this vest, you'll need:

  • Worsted weight yarn in the color of your choice

  • Tapestry needle

The Stitch Pattern

The thin and thick vines pattern is a simple, yet beautiful stitch pattern that creates a textured, vine-like effect. Here's how to work it:

Cast on a multiple of 6 stitches, plus 2 additional stitches.

Row 1:

Knit 1, *purl 1, knit 5; repeat from * to the last stitch, knit 1.

Row 2:

Purl 1, *knit 3, purl 3; repeat from * to the last stitch, purl 1.

Repeat rows 1-4 for the pattern.

The Vest Pattern

Now that you have the stitch pattern down, here's how to use it to make a cute baby vest:

Back:

Cast on 50 stitches using the long tail cast on method.

Work in the thin and thick vines pattern for 6 inches (or desired length).

Next row (right side): Knit 16 stitches, place marker, knit 18 stitches, place marker, knit remaining 16 stitches.

Continue in pattern, knitting to the first marker, binding off the next 18 stitches, and knitting to the end of the row. You will have 16 stitches on each shoulder.

Fronts:

Cast on 26 stitches for each front using the long tail cast on method.

Work in the thin and thick vines pattern for 4 inches (or desired length).

Next row (right side): Knit 8 stitches, place marker, knit 10 stitches, place marker, knit remaining 8 stitches.

Continue in pattern, knitting to the first marker, binding off the next 10 stitches, and knitting to the end of the row. You will have 8 stitches on each shoulder.

Assembly:

Sew the shoulder seams together, leaving the center back open for the neck.

With right sides facing, sew the side seams together.

This thin and thick vines pattern baby vest is a great project for knitters of all skill levels.
