Baby Vest with Tied Balloons Pattern

Knitting a Baby vest with Tied Balloons Pattern

If you're looking for a cute and unique baby vest pattern, the tied balloons pattern is perfect! The pattern features a playful design with rows of colorful balloons tied together. This project is suitable for intermediate knitters who are comfortable with colorwork and reading charts.

Materials:

  • DK weight yarn in white, pink, blue, and green
  • Size US 5 (3.75 mm) circular knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors

Gauge:

22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Pattern:

Note: The pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up.

Back:

  1. With white yarn, cast on 72 stitches. Place a marker and join in the round.
  2. Knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 1 inch.
  3. Switch to blue yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  4. Switch to white yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 2 inches.
  5. Switch to pink yarn and knit in tied balloon pattern for 5 inches. See chart below for pattern.
  6. Switch to white yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 2 inches.
  7. Switch to green yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  8. Bind off.
Front:

  1. With white yarn, cast on 36 stitches. Place a marker and join in the round.
  2. Knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 1 inch.
  3. Switch to blue yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  4. Switch to white yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  5. Switch to pink yarn and knit in tied balloon pattern for 2 inches.
  6. Switch to white yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  7. Switch to green yarn and knit in stockinette stitch for 1 inch.
  8. Bind off.

Finishing:

  1. Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
  2. Sew the front and back pieces together at the shoulders using the mattress stitch.
  3. Sew the side seams together using the mattress stitch.
  4. Using white yarn, pick up stitches around the armhole and knit in the round for 1 inch. Bind off.
  5. Using white yarn, pick up stitches around the neckline and knit in the round for 1 inch. Bind off.
  6. Using white yarn, pick up stitches around the bottom of the vest and knit in the round for 1 inch. Bind off.
