Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in desired colors (typically brown for the bear and a contrasting color for the muzzle and/or paws)
- Crochet hook (size appropriate for your yarn, usually around size G/4mm)
- Safety eyes or black embroidery thread for eyes
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Start with the Head:
- Begin with a magic ring (also known as a magic circle) or ch 2 and work into the second chain from the hook.
- Round 1: Work 6 sc into the ring or second chain from the hook. (6 sts)
- Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Round 3: Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st around. (18 sts)
- Round 4: Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st around. (24 sts)
- Rounds 5-10 (or until desired size): Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
- At this point, you can add safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8, with about 6 stitches between them.
- Crochet the Body:
- Work the body directly onto the head without fastening off.
- Rounds 11-16: Continue working in rounds, decreasing at the beginning and end of each round to shape the body. For example, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog around. (18 sts by the end of Round 16)
- Stuff the head and body firmly with fiberfill as you go.
- Crochet the Arms (Make 2):
- Begin with a magic ring or ch 2 and work into the second chain from the hook.
- Round 1: Work 6 sc into the ring or second chain from the hook. (6 sts)
- Rounds 2-6 (or until desired length): Sc in each st around. (6 sts)
- Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff the arms lightly.
- Crochet the Legs (Make 2):
- Follow the same instructions as for the arms, but make the legs slightly longer if desired.
- Assembly:
- Sew the arms and legs onto the body using the yarn tails and a yarn needle.
- Embroider a nose and mouth onto the muzzle using black embroidery thread.
- Attach any additional features, such as ears or a tail, as desired.
- Finishing Touches:
- Weave in any remaining ends and trim excess yarn.
- Give your teddy bear a final fluff and adjust any stuffing if necessary.
