How to crochet a Strawberry Applique

These cute little fruits can be used to embellish anything from hats and bags to blankets and pillows. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to crochet a strawberry applique in just a few simple steps.

Materials

  • Red worsted weight yarn
  • Green worsted weight yarn
  • Size G crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle

Instructions

Step 1: To begin, make a slip knot with the red yarn and chain 3. Join the chain with a slip stitch to form a loop.

Step 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), then work 11 more double crochet stitches into the center of the loop. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first chain 3 to form a circle.

Step 3: Chain 1, then work 2 single crochet stitches into each double crochet stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.

Step 4: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), then work 1 double crochet into the same stitch. Work 2 double crochet stitches into each of the next 2 stitches. *Work 1 double crochet into the next stitch, then work 2 double crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first chain 3.

Step 5: Cut the red yarn and weave in the ends.

Step 6: Join the green yarn to the top of any stitch from the previous round. Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), then work 1 double crochet into the same stitch. Work 2 double crochet stitches into each of the next 2 stitches. *Work 1 double crochet into the next stitch, then work 2 double crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the first chain 3.

Step 7: Cut the green yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Use the tapestry needle to sew the green section to the top of the red section, leaving the bottom of the red section exposed.

Step 8: Use a small piece of brown yarn to embroider the seeds onto the red section of the strawberry. Tie off and weave in the ends.

And there you have it – your very own crochet strawberry applique! Whether you use it to decorate a project or as a standalone piece, this adorable little fruit is sure to add a touch of sweetness to your crochet creations.
